MoveTime: Kids Screen Time
Help for parents on iPhone and iPad
What MoveTime does
MoveTime helps parents turn screen time into a reason to move. A parent chooses which apps stay locked and sets a short activity. The child does that activity, the camera counts the movement on the device, and those apps unlock for the minutes they earned. When the time runs out, the apps lock again.
Video is not recorded or saved. A parent PIN is the only way to change the rules.
How do I set up parental controls?
Open MoveTime and finish the setup steps:
- Tap Set it up.
- Tap Allow Screen Time and approve Apple's prompt. MoveTime cannot lock apps without Screen Time access.
- Tap Choose apps, pick what should stay locked, then tap Done. Tap Lock these apps. The free plan locks one app. More apps are part of MoveTime Family.
- Set the deal: how many repetitions, how many minutes unlock, and how many times a day. A usual start is 20 jumping jacks for 15 minutes, up to 3 times a day. Tap Save this rule.
- Choose a 4-digit parent PIN and enter it again. Then tap Give to your child.
How do children earn screen time?
On the child screen, pick the reward and tap Let's Move, then Start. The whole body needs to fit on screen. MoveTime counts jumping jacks, or squats when that activity is part of the rule.
When the repetitions are done, the apps you chose unlock for the earned minutes. Opening one of those apps before a reward shows Time to move, with a button to open MoveTime.
The camera is not counting the activity
MoveTime asks for the camera when the child taps Start. If access was denied, the screen says the camera is needed to count the activity and offers Open Settings. You can also turn the camera on in the Settings app, under MoveTime.
While an activity is in progress, follow the message on screen:
- Step back if the whole body is not in view.
- Keep arms and legs visible.
- Have only one person exercising in view.
The camera is used only to count movement. Video is not recorded or saved. The activity can be cancelled and started again.
How do I change the rules?
On the child screen, tap Parents and enter the 4-digit PIN.
- Tap a rule to change the exercise, repetitions, minutes, or times a day, then tap Save. An existing rule can also be deleted from that screen.
- Tap + Add Rule for another challenge. The free plan includes one rule and jumping jacks. More rules and squats are part of MoveTime Family.
- Tap Edit apps or Choose apps to change which apps stay locked.
- Open Settings, then Change parent PIN, to replace the PIN. Enter the current PIN first.
Five wrong PINs pause entry for 30 seconds. If the PIN is forgotten, delete MoveTime and install it again, then set it up from the start.
Subscriptions and Restore Purchases
MoveTime is free to start. The free plan includes one rule, jumping jacks, and one locked app. MoveTime Family adds more rules, more activities, more apps, and the activity list.
MoveTime Family is an auto-renewable subscription: $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year. The App Store shows the price before you pay. Payment is charged to the Apple Account. The plan renews until it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
To subscribe, or to restore a purchase, open the parent view and go to Settings, then MoveTime Family. Tap Restore Purchases and use the same Apple Account that bought the subscription. Restoring does not charge you again.
Manage or cancel the subscription in the device Settings app, under Apple Account, then Subscriptions. MoveTime cannot cancel an App Store subscription for you.
